How Much Toothpaste Should I Use?

For ages 6 months to 3 years, you should place a “smear” layer on your child’s toothbrush. Dr. Forrester and his staff will demonstrate this for you in office at the time of your dental exam and cleaning. After brushing, make sure to wipe out your child’s mouth with a washcloth to avoid ingesting too much fluoride.

For ages 3 to 6, a “pea” size amount of toothpaste will suffice. After brushing, make sure your child spits out any excess toothpaste.
